It’s been quite an exciting year for a couple from Seymour. Paul and Gail Ledbetter have worked to get Phil Bredesen elected Governor of Tennessee and were invited to the Inauguration on January 18 in Nashville. They were also at the Governor’s Ball at the Opryland Hotel.
The Ledbetters are members of the Sevier County Democratic Executive Committee. They have worked to get Mr. Bredesen elected, handing out cards, putting up signs, and making phone calls to get voters to cast their ballots for Bredesen. “We were somewhat successful,” Paul Ledbetter declared with a smile.
The Ledbetters are very active in the community. They’re involved in numerous fundraisers and with Veteran’s programs. Paul is the Vice-Commander of the Gatlinburg American Legion and Gail is Chaplain and Public Relations officer of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 202.
The Ledbetters maintain a high level of enthusiasm for their candidates for public office. “It’s been an exceptional year for the Democrats and we are happy with our results by winning the Governor’s chair,” the Ledbetters said.
Paul and Gail are particularly excited about the ball they attended. “This will be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for us,” they remarked.
Before the Inauguration on the 18th, the Ledbetters met with Phil Bredesen and his wife, Andrea, at the East Tennessee Regional Inaugural Open House on Tuesday, Jan 14 at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville. The public was invited to the event.
Twenty-thousand tickets were sent out to the Jan 18 Governor’s Inaugural Ball. Approximately 15,000 attended the affair. Due to the weather, the turnout was lighter than expected.
Three lavishly decorated ballrooms were open to invitation-holders. The Governor and First Lady visited all the ballrooms and danced to the “Tennessee Waltz” in each and spoke from the stages.
Entertainers included Al Green, Rebecca Lynn Howard, and Mandy Barnett.
Among the attendees were several other Sevier County residents.
