Ok, well, we’re not quite the city, but we do have a great selection of Christmas lights to see around the area. When driving in Cherokee Hills subdivision, just off Hwy. 411 behind the Seymour Business Park, turn left at the second street when you enter the subdivision and go to the dead end. There you can find Mr. And Mrs. Santa Clause sitting on a bench talking in the cool breeze. Directly across the street you will see an array of lights and decorations to put a smile on just about anyone’s face – maybe even Scrooges. When you get back to Cherokee Hills Dr. go left to Valley View and turn left. On the right you will see Santa on the front porch getting ready to wave right at you. A lighted nativity scene across the street is simple but very elegant and enjoyable.
Next stop – travel over to Eagle Den subdivision. But on your way, be sure to check out the lights on Hwy. 411 about a half-mile west of Chapman Hwy. It’s on the left side if you’re coming from the East but you won’t miss it with its bright lights shimmering off every tree and bush in the yard. When you arrive at the Eagle Den subdivision take a drive down Amy St. The house is lit up so bright you can spot a mile away with all the bright lights and decorations in the yard. A must see for the locals.
Now it’s time to head North. If you’re downtown enter onto Island Home Avenue then go right to Southhaven Rd. Turn right onto McClung Avenue; then right to Beech Street. On this street you’ll find a home decorated to the max with lights, decorations, figures and more. Just another block or two (turn left to Buford St) you will see a few other homes nicely decorated and worth the trip.
Not too far past that just off Sevierville Pike (and past a four-way stop) turn left to Alpine Dr. This yard is filled with a great array of lighted characters including the Mr. & Mrs.Clause, elves, snowmen, an angel choir, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and a lighted nativity scene. Don’t miss Santa’s workshop where you’ll see moving characters busy at work.
Heading back home to Seymour look just past Chapman Square, at Fire Hall No. 13. They have did it again this year and decked out the fire hall with lights and figures. Continue up Chapman but don’t miss the house across from Brandau Drive directly on Chapman. It’s a pretty site.
Next stop is just off Chapman Hwy. Turn right to Colonial Drive (near the fruit stand) then left on Arcadia and a right to Hamilton. On the corner you’ll see a great display with lights, messages, lighted characters of all types including a choir, carolers, Santas, soldiers, penguins and snowmen. If you’re a Disney fan you’ll love the Mickey, Pooh, Goofy and Tigger in the yard. The last one in this area that stands out is on Magazine Rd. Get there by turning left onto Magazine Rd. from Hamilton and go to where Magazine intersects with West Ford Valley Road. Just at the corner of West Ford Valley and Linford Road, you’ll find a beautiful home giving you an all-angles look at decorations including 4-foot high characters. Continue down West Ford Valley to see a forest of more than two-dozen trees all lit up. It’s incredible.
When you get back to Seymour you’ll want to make a couple more stops to end your evening. You can’t miss the Karaoke Cafe on Chapman Hwy. They did a wonderful job this year as always. One home on Daniel Drive just off West Union Valley Road off Old Sevierville Pike is well decorated, as well as some various homes scattered through Foothills Estates.
To make your ride really enjoyable, why not put on some Christmas tunes and really get into the spirit. Enjoy and drive safely!
