Betty Townsend, age 70, of Sevierville, went to receive her crown Tuesday, December 10, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents Verless and Cora Morton; sister Rosella Ownby; brothers Henry, Bill and Verless Morton, Jr.; grandson Travis Houser. Survivors: Carman Townsend, Daughter: Denise Franklin, Daughter and son-in-law: Marlene and Stephen Houser, Grandchildren: Tasha Franklin, Stephen Houser, II
Brothers: Tom Morton, Clell Morton, Frits Morton, Sisters: Augusta Whaley, Jane Noland, and many friends. Homegoing celebration was Thursday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Lonas, and Rev. Donnie Jester officiating. Interment followed in Caton’s Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Ken Dyer officiating. The family received friends Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Memorial contributions were made to: Harvest Christian Fellowship Food Pantry, 2505 Washington Pike, Knoxville,TN 37917; or Gatlinburg Community Church of God Food Pantry, 3420 Birds Creek, Sevierville,TN 37876.

He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church. Survivors: Wife of 56 years: Lillie Smith Widner of Kodak, Daughter and son-in-law: Joette and Glenn Begue of Jacksonville, FL, Sister: Helen Smith of Seymour
Numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends met Friday at Beech Springs Cemetery in Kodak for graveside services and interment with Rev. Wayne Stinnett and Rev. Kim McCroskey officiating. Military honors provided by American Legion Post # 104. The family received friends Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. In lieu of flowers, donations were made to Beech Springs Baptist Church-Building Fund, 337 Mount Road West, Kodak, TN, 37764 and St. Mary’s Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938.

Age 87, of Maryville. She passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at Asbury Acres Health Center. She was a member of Alcoa First Baptist Church. She was retired from ALCOA, and was a member of their 25-Year Club. Preceded in death by: Husband, Ernest H. Kidd; Parents, Clyde and Maude Nuchols; Brother, James Marion Nuchols; Step-son, Ralph H. Kidd. Survivors include: Daughter and Son-in-law, Carolyn & George Bair of Camp Hill, PA; Son and Daughter-in-law, Charles & Brenda Thomas of Maryville; Sister-in-law, Lorean C. Nuchols of Maryville; Daughter-in-law, Nelda F. Kidd of Alcoa; and Grandchildren, Mark Thomas, Kerma Headrick, Kelly Smith, Kathy Keeney, Deborah Vesser, Susan Villaume, Karen Middleton, and Robert Kidd; Great-Grandchildren, Andrew, Lindsay and Leah Thomas, Thomas and Sarah Headrick, Ben and Katie Smith, Megan & Elise Keeney, Erin & Lauren Vesser, Nathan & Megan Villaume, Katie, Hannah and Rebecca Middleton, Eli and Maddy Kidd. Special thanks to the caregivers at Asbury Acres Health Care Center. She was a loving wife and mother and will always be fondly remembered for her kindness and special smile. Funeral services were on Friday, December 13, 2002 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary, with Dr. Richard Holden officiating. Family and friends assembled Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment.

Age 65, of Corpus Christi, TX, originally of Maryville, passed away Friday, December 6, 2002 peacefully at her home. Preceded in death by parents, Dewey B. and Alva Tipton. Survivors include her husband, Newmon Russell; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Donna Russell of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Verl Lantz of Robstown, TX; granddaughter, Amber Lantz; sister, Evelyn Daily of Maryville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Rowland Faulk of Louisiana; and Phyllis and Jim Hannah of FL; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were on Friday, December 6, 2002 in the West Chapel of Smith Mortuary. Interment followed at the Grandview Cemetery. Family received friends Thursday, December 11, 2002 at Smith Mortuary in Maryville.
