The Seymour Eagles’ improved to 9-1 on the year with an impressive 48-34 victory last week over Carpenters Middle School from Blount County.
The Eagles, coached by Scott Norman, never trailed in the game, racing out to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter before holding a 31-23 halftime advantage.
Point guard Derrick Lee led seven first half Eagle scorers with 12-points. Kyle Koeneman was also effective in the first half from his low-post position with nine-points and several rebounds.
Seymour added to their margin by outscoring the visitors 15-4 in the third stanza to take a 46-27 advantage into the fourth.
Chase Parrott started the Eagles’ third quarter run with a runner in the lane with just under four-minutes left. Koeneman hit a put-back, Duncan Smith converted a lay-up, Brad Silvers hit a free toss and Parrott added a trey to cap the marathon style play of the quarter.
Coach Norman emptied his bench in the final stanza and gave Cougars a chance to make it look respectable.
Carpenters, who fell to 6-4 on the year, scored just 13-points in the second. The Eagles, whose only loss came on a end of the game buzzer beater against Pigeon Forge, played Saturday in a Christmas Tournament at Eagleton Middle School. Results of the tournament were unavailable at press time.

The Lady Eagles saw Carpenters lightning quick guard Danielle Sampley score 20 fourth points en route to turning a 39-37 lead at the end of the third quarter to a comfortable 61-48 final margin.
At one point, Sampley scored 10 consecutive points in a span of two minutes to turn a four-point Carpenters lead into a 14-point advantage with 2:05 remaining.
Seymour, who held a 19-11 lead after the first period, never saw the Sampley scoring barrage coming. She scored only two first half points, with those coming on a pair of free throws. She scored her first field goal of the game on a lay-up with 3:20 left in the third quarter and started scoring from all over the court, at about a pace of about a bucket per minute. Staci Bubp contributed 18-points for the Lady Cougars who improved to 7-3 on the year.
