Looking for a great book about Valentine’s Day? In January, it will be available through Pelican Publishing. Seymour writer and author Michele Karl (who also is the editor of The Seymour Herald newspaper) has written her fourth book entitled, “Greetings with Love – the Book of Valentine’s.”
When Saint Valentine was a priest during the third century in Rome, Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage. Despite the emperor’s decree, Saint Valentine continued to perform marriages until Claudius finally put him to death. Today, Valentine’s Day celebrates Saint Valentine’s sacrifice and love’s triumph with delicate valentines, bright flowers, and tasty candies.
In this exhaustive exploration of Valentine’s Day, collector and author Karl showcases over 200 vintage valentines, complete with detailed descriptions, historical anecdotes, and innovative recipes. Also included are fun facts, folklore, poems, crafts, and other expressions of love. Lovers of all ages will delight in this book’s wealth of information and history behind our most romantic holiday.
Karl was asked to attend a book signing at the Seymour branch library in February and discuss her book. “I’ll bring some fun things for the kids to do. Besides telling the history of Valentines Day the book is filled with recipes, crafts and fun things to do. Children can come and make some Valentine’s Day cards for mom and dad while the parents get a chance to look around and talk” said Karl.
