Early Thursday morning, the 14th of November, at approximately 5:30 a.m. a blaze drove seven people, including two children from their home in the Hidden Valley subdivision area behind Cherokee Hills subdivision.
The home, located in Blount County was extensively damaged as flames blasted out most of the openings. The 911 operators received an emergency call from 732 Pleasant Valley Road at approximately 5:35 a.m. where Donald Harrell and family resided.
According to dispatch reports, at 5:35 a.m. the Blount County Sheriff’s Department dispatched a deputy for a call of a domestic dispute at the same address.
The first Seymour Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) fire truck arrived on the scene at approximately 5:45 a.m. Response time was 8 minutes. Five engines and an assistant chief were at the scene shortly thereafter. The SVFD, unaware the deputy was already on the way, also made a call to the Sheriff’s Dept. because of some unusual circumstances.
According to reports, suspicious items were found outside the home and fresh tire tracks were found visible surround the home.
When the Blount County Deputies arrived the house was engulfed in flames according to Blount County Public Information Officer Marian O’Briant.
The fire was initially contained that morning. Approximately 20 hours later, SVFD received another call at the same location for an additional fire. Two engines were dispatched.
Ambulance service from Blount County along with Blount County Sheriff’s Department were quick to respond.
The firefighters did an excellent job with about 10 to 12 men on the scene. They were able to bring the initial fire under control quickly yet they were unable to save the home, which was completed destroyed in the blaze.
