On Nov. 21, Missouri Gov. Bob Holden’s office was to tally votes taken online to decide the Missouri state quarter design with yet another version of Paul Jackson’s design in the running.
Five designs went online Nov. 7 for a two-week vote, closing Nov. 21. The designs, provided by the U.S. Mint just prior to the images going online, included two that have been re-rendered by Mint sculptor-engravers.
Design No. 1 illustrating an oxen pulling a covered wagon with the state outline in the background and adorned by the theme GATEWAY TO THE WEST, has had the image of a cowboy removed that had been walking in front of the oxen.
Design No. 2 was rerendered again, making this the third version released to the public. The design has drawn much attention throughout most of this year as its originator, Columbia, Mo., artist Paul Jackson, launched a campaign first against the Mint and then against Gov. Bob Holden’s office when his design was not left unaltered.
