The new, 15, 000 square-foot senior center saw for the first time a packed parking lot for the 2 p.m. grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony last Friday.
Several Sevier County Commissioners, Sevierville Alderpersons, Sevier County Executive, Larry Waters, Sevierville Mayor, Bryan Atchley, and other dignitaries were on hand for the occasion along with a large crowd of supporters and well wishers.
Official ribbon cutting ceremony and congratulator and appreciation speeches out of the way, the participants entered the spacious center to inspect all the amenities it has to offer.
The building’s appearance is distinguished and proud. There is evident appeal and practical design, which allows for easy access, use and growth. The response from the crowd was an overwhelming acceptance. “The building has an inviting and comfortable feel to it,” stated one attendee of the Ft. Sevierville Alderwoman Mary Ruth Cutshaw donated 17 acres on Chapman Highway the Senior Center. Other agencies who helped make the center a reality include Covenant Health, The county, and the city of Sevierville as well as many private donations. Cutshaw will help in managing the center. On hand for the official ribbon cutting were Sevierville Mayor Ben Atchley, Sara Sinclair of Covenant Health, Ellen Wilhoit of Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center, Geneva Myers of the Council on Aging and County Executive Larry Waters.
One spectator commented, “ I hope this will be a center that can be used for many years to come and be a happy and fulfilling place for everyone who enters.”
