UT Medical Center Urologist and Department of Surgery Professor, W. Bedford Waters, MD, was elected Trustee of the American Board of Urology, Inc., at the board’s biannual summer meeting last month. The position is for six years. There are twelve trustees.
Organized in 1934 and incorporated in 1935, the objective of the ABU is to identify those physicians who have satisfied the board’s criteria for certification and re-certification in the specialty of urology. The ABU and the various other specialty boards are members of the American Board of Medical Specialties. The American Board of Medical Specialties, in conjunction with the Residency Review Committee for Urology and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (AAGME), have established academic standards for specialization which the American Board of Urology, Inc., has adopted.
Dr. Waters served as a member of the ABU’s Written Examination Committee from 1995-1999 and as a member of the Oral Certifying Examination Committee from 1999-2002.
