On Saturday, October 19th there will be a Family Oktoberfest and Open House at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Seymour from 4 to 9 PM. “We’ll have some great authentic German dishes available, made from family recipes handed down for generations,” said Dean Hempel, one of the event organizers. “We are bringing in the German band from the Old Heidelberg Restaurant in Gatlinburg to set the mood and play all of the Bavaria favorites. There will be door prizes and plenty of activities for the kids” Hempel said. The largest festival in the world is Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Nearly 6 million visitors converge on Munich each year to celebrate for 16 days of food, fun and plenty of German “Gemutlichkeit.” Our Seymour version of this celebration will not be anything like Munich’s. “This is a major effort for our small church,” Hempel said “We are not charging any admission to this event and the food will be priced affordable for families. Our goal was to try to make this an authentic Oktoberfest experience for the whole family. There will be plenty of good food and fun activities for both kids and adults.” Holy Trinity is located at 11212 Chapman Highway in Seymour.
