The Seymour Eagles Middle School Football squad improved their record to 6-1 last week, avenging their only loss of the year, with a 40-0 romp of Sevierville Middle School.
The Eagles have now posted five consecutive shutouts and have outscored opponents by a margin of 198-19. They are winning their games by an average score of 28-2; with the last team that scored on them being the same Sevierville club that they shut our Thursday night.
The last chance this defensive juggernaut in action will be Thursday night against Cocke County Middle School at the Seymour High School Football Field.
“The Sevierville win was a great team effort,” said SMS Head Coach Chad Pfeffinger. “I couldn’t be any more proud of the boys. I told them before the game that ‘You’re the best now go out and prove it’, they took that to heart and went out and played another outstanding game. This has been a great team to work with. They all listen in practice and then go out in the games and respond to what we’ve tried to coach them.”
Seymour held a 22-0 advantage at halftime but had only a slight 37-32 edge in total yards.
Their first half points came on a 45-yard Duncan Smith interception return in the first quarter, a Brandon Silvers 25-yard punt block and return and a Raymond Wagner 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Smith ran in the two-point conversion after the first score and threw a short pass to Matt Lynam for the conversion after the third touchdown. The conversion following the second touchdown was unsuccessful.
Quarterback Smith has been involved in 13 touchdowns this season.
The Eagles’ offense got on track in the second half, gaining 107-yards, with 107 coming on the ground and 10 through the air.
The Seymour defense limited Sevierville to just 11-rushing yards in the second half.
The second half scoring got underway when Smith and Sammy Gibson combined on a quarterback sack in the end zone for a safety in the third quarter.
Smith hit Lynam on a 10-yard touchdown pass and Chase Parrott ran in the conversion to make the score 32-0 in the third quarter.
Seymour capped their scoring with a 25-yard Ethan Kegley touchdown run in the fourth quarter and a Michael Whitted conversion run to make it 40-0.
Seymour finished with 154 total yards and saw their defense limit Sevierville to negative nine total yards.
