The Seymour Eagles Middle School football team improved their record to 3-1 Thursday night with a 24-0 win over Eagleton Middle School.
The Eagles’ defense has now posted two shutouts in the first four games of the season. Their only loss was a 12-8 come from behind win by Sevierville Middle School. The defense is giving up an average of just over four points per game for the season.
“We beat Eagleton and Carter 24-0, so our defense is playing very well,” said Eagles’ Coach Chad Pfeffinger. “We’ll find out just how well they’re playing this week against Gatlinburg. They’re 5-0 and this is our homecoming, so it’s going to be a big game.”
Eagles’ quarterback Duncan Smith completed a 45-yard scoring strike to Brandon Silvers during the first quarter in the win over Eagleton. Chase Parrott scored the two-point conversion run to make it 8-0.
After a scoreless second quarter, Smith plunged in on a one-yard quarterback sneak in the third quarter and Parrott added the two-point conversion to put the Eagles up 18-0.
Dustin Brasswell capped the Seymour scoring with a 13-yard touchdown jaunt in the fourth quarter. Michael Witted scored the conversion to make it 24-0.
The Eagles were led on defense by Barry Davis, who had a second half fumble recovery and Drew Fox, who had a second half interception. Tyler Gamble was the leading tackler on the team.
“We have a great bunch of athletes who are playing to their full potential,” added Pfeffinger. “Our defense is strong and the offense gets better every week. Everyone does a great job of playing together as a team.”
The Eagles host Gatlinburg Middle School for homecoming Thursday night at 6:30 p.m., they will then finish their season against Pigeon Forge (as home), against Sevieville (away) and against Cocke County (at home).
