Tuesday, September 17, members of the Providence Baptist Church held a 9-11 memorial luncheon for the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department at the fire station.
Volunteer Firefighter Charles Loveday commented on the luncheon with, “It’s a great lunch and my mom did a great job decorating the fire hall before the event. Loveday’s mother is Edna Rogers. Rogers is a member of Providence Baptist Church, a 1986 Teacher of the Year and current President of the National Teachers Association. Edna a Sevier county resident along with husband Roy planned the event and worked at putting it all together. “Roy and I have recently taken over the VIP’s at the church.” The VIP’s is a group of adults 55 and over who meet regularly for different functions. “With 9-11 still on my mind I thought it would nice to have this lunch here in the fire hall. The fire fighters really appreciate it. The local businesses and churches really appreciate the firefighters and I know they appreciate our support.”
During the luncheon former Sevier County Commissioner Beecher Baker was awarded a plaque as a thank you for his many years of service to the volunteer firefighters and the fire department. “I don’t really deserve this,” stated Baker. “Anything I’ve done was for the betterment of the community.”
