The 5K Rotary Classic scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2002 is filling up with great runners. The race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. in front of Stokely Gymnasium on the King’s Academy property. The course is praised as a lovely, scenic and physically-satisfying run through the academy campus, as well as various backcountry roads through rural pastoral farm scenes.
This year’s major sponsor, The Seymour Herald, will enter their own Bill Wright to run the race. “It’s for a great cause, and I love to run,” stated Wright.
This year there were at least twenty-seven sponsors that stepped up support the event. For their support, their names will be silk screened on T-shirts that will be worn by the racers as will as mentioned elsewhere in this newspaper.
Many others have offered to provide door prizes. One such offer came from the publisher of The Seymour Herald in the form of an airplane ride around the area. “I hope the person that wins doesn’t get airsick”, state Joseph Karl, publisher of the Seymour Herald. Runners may pre-register, or sign up the day of the race from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. at Stokely Gym. Pre-registration fee is $12.50 and should be postmarked by Friday, September 27, 2002. Late registration (including on the day of the race) is $15.00. Pre-registrations should be sent to: Seymour Rotary, PO Box 66, Seymour, TN 37865.
Complimentary shirts will be given to all pre-registered contestants. Day of registrants will be given shirts while supplies last. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the race.
The race will also include post-race refreshments, and door prizes. For more information on this event contact Walter Grubb at The King’s Academy 573-8321 (M-F 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
