Mrs. Williams is a 2nd grade teacher at Seymour Community Christian School. Besides performing the day-to-day ritual of running a second grade class, Williams tries to do that little extra. “We do several field trips during the year. It is important to get out in the community and to show the children different things,” stated Williams.
Part of their ministry is to make others happy. So once a month, the children get in the van and travel to the Markhill Manor Retirement Center. “We go the 2nd Tuesday of the month at about 10:00 am and spend time with the seniors. The kids love it and the seniors love it. My class has been going now for about four years. “It teaches them to give of themselves and not get all the time. They read to the residents, we have parties and sing songs and have a great time,” stated Williams.
Besides visiting the retirement center the class performs other ministries throughout the year. One such ministry is their annual coat drive. “This is our 3rd or 4th year for the coat drive,” says Williams. According to the school, “With winter coming there are many folks who will be cold because they don’t have sweaters, coats, gloves or hats. The second graders at Seymour Community Christian School want to do something to help. So, they are collecting coats, etc. to take to the Sevier County Food Ministries. The class is asking for your help with donations. If you have anything you feel could be used to help people in need you can take the items to the school located at 994 South Old Sevierville Pike by November 4th. You can also call Linda Williams at 577-5500 or 579-6746.
