Winford Widner had previously broken his leg and had difficulty getting into his car, so his wife Louise, put her purse on top of the car and proceeded to help Winford into the passenger’s seat. She then went around to the driver’s side of the car, got in it and drove off to the Therapy Center in Seymour with her purse still atop the car.
After they arrived at the center, Louise noticed that her purse had been lost. Her husband told her, “I’m sure there’s still honest people in Seymour.”
Little did the Widner’s know that even before they had time to return home Chris Taylor, a Pepsi Bottling employee who was traveling on West Union Valley Road where the Widners live, had discovered the purse with several hundred dollars in cash and credit cards in it. Taylor looked in the purse just enough to get a name. From there he looked in the phone book for a number. He reached the Widner’s grandson, who gave Taylor the Widner’s phone number.
By the time the couple got home, Taylor had already made three attempts at reaching them. When the Widners finally got together with Taylor, they give him a reward, which Taylor wouldn’t even accept.
“I told you Seymour still has honest people living here,” said Winford.
Taylor lives in Woodland Hills on Scenic Drive in Seymour.
