It’s not just Steiff teddy bears that bring good money at the auctions. Bears have been bringing top prices for some time, but other animals are beginning to keep pace. Steiff stuffed toys sold above estimate at a Sotheby’s auction in New York last winter.
Other notable prices included $2,185 for a large standing lion, 69 inches long; and $1,495 for a large giraffe, 59 inches high, both made after World War II.
