The second Progressive Farmer Farm and Home Safety Day Camp is being planned for Aug. 24 at Heritage High School. More than 100 children are killed and over 30,000 children are injured each year on America’s farms. The goal of the camp is to teach children and their parents how to reduce the risk of farm accidents. Interactive demonstrations teach participants lifesaving first aid techniques and reveal the hidden hazards in and around the home as well as on the farm. Camp demonstrations focus on hazards associated with ATVs, chemicals, fire, lawn and garden equipment, tractors and farm equipment, railroads, electricity, livestock and pets.
The camp is open to children ages 6-13. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. A $5 registration fee for the event covers lunch, snacks, a take-home packet and a farm safety day camp T-shirt. Parents accompanying their children may attend at no charge. Parents can register their children to participate in the camp by calling coordinator Robin Fazio at (865) 982-4262.
