The idea to join a weight loss group was mine. With fall fast approaching and various family and upcoming events, I wanted to do something to make me feel better about myself. Krista, our managing editor, who is planning a wedding, agreed. So we both spoke with Joe and Michele, the publishers, who thought the idea of “group” weight loss was great. As a result, I contacted LA Weight Loss to see if they could help us. This is the second “Diet Diary” in a series, since we started the program four weeks ago. After this week, the “Diet Diary” will become a weekly article since so many of our readers wanted more information and thus they can follow along to see how each of us is progressing. As of today, our combined “group” weight loss has now reached 30.4 pounds. We are all on “target” and feeling great!
I had always considered my bathroom scale as my friend because whenever I checked my weight, it always was perfect for my size. With the birth of my son in 1990 and then my daughter in 1994, I began to think a little differently. After my daughter began eating solid foods, I would find myself nibbling off her plate or just eating what was left over.
Fast food also became my friend when both my children started school. Many times we would zip into a fast food restaurant before, or even on the way home from work. It’s quick, easy and fills the void.
Then enters LA Weight Loss and my “Food Diary.” The “Food Diary” has become my new “Friend.” My poor eating habits have all changed in the last few weeks. Diet drinks and fast foods are a limited experience, and now we eat well balanced meals. My children are beginning to wonder if their mom is from another planet. No more pasta at dinner. It’s leafy green veggies, baked potatoes, chicken, fish, beef and a variety of fruits. Spinach has become a staple in our diets. With the “Food Diary,” everything we eat is kept track of – good and bad. So the LA Weight Loss counselor and myself, can look back to see where I “slipped-up” or where I was on track, during the week.
The urge to cheat is sometimes there. Last weekend that urge consumed me at a bachelorette party. After following the LA Weight Loss plan the day of the party, the temptation that night was over-whelming. I sat twiddling my thumbs and drinking water as everyone enjoyed such goodies as spinach dip (in a bread bowl no less), hot artichoke dip with warm tortilla chips and miniature quiches. Was I tempted? Yes, even though it was a struggle, there were no such goodies to grace these lips. Did I mention the double fudge brownies? Believe it or not, those were passed up as well.
Having done an excellent job with my LA Weight Loss plan, I look forward to the three times a week weigh-ins with Yvonne. The visits are a great support to help keep one on track. At work, we all stick together to eat correctly throughout the day. It does help to have a support team.
The four of us are having a great time with our LA Weight Loss diet. We are never hungry and eat every two and-a-half to three hours. There are times during the day when we yell at each other, “Did you have your snack?” or “Is your water all gone?” Mondays are the best. After having been apart for the weekend, we get together and compare what we ate over the past two days. Drooling at each other’s “different” food choices. Michele taught me that if you take a plain – low sodium rice cake and spray it with I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-butter spray and pop it into the toaster, it tastes like popcorn!
If there are any questions concerning what foods to eat and what not to eat, or a temptation that is so over-whelming, I can look on my plan guide, which lists foods and amounts or call one of the counselors at LA Weight Loss or speak to Krista, Joe or Michele. When the scale is in front of me today, I am confident that the digital numbers will head in a “down” direction, of course, it always does when the plan is followed.
***Our first “Diet Diary” entry in the August 7th issue of The Seymour Herald. It stated that Krista lost three pounds in three weeks. It should have said three pounds in the first week.***
