They are over half way through the season at 411 Raceway, and Saturday the 27th of July turned out to be a great day for racing.
The sun was out, the drivers and their cars were in the pit and the fans packed the stands. From the drop of the green flag in the Baby Grands feature to the checkered flag in the Wedge Late Model feature, there were very few cautions. There were a lot of back and forth lead changes and some drivers, who made their way from the back to the front to take the win. The Kids were also out in force because it was Kid’s Night, which meant bike races for the kids. Clayton Homes of the Smokey’s donated two-10 speed bikes that were given away at intermission. Number 8 Dale Wilson came from the back to take his second win of the season in the Baby Grand feature. Second place was #115 Tyler Brown, third #55 Ron Belcher, fourth #6 Tony Cox and fifth was #35 Clifford Pugh.
Nancy Hardwick took the lead in the Pro Challenge feature, but #18 Mark Dyer was on her bumper the whole time. Number 5 Marty Arender made his way up through the pack from a seventh place start, but Arender took his time and it paid off. Arender made his way around both Hardwick and Dyer with a few laps to go to take the win. Number 18 Dyer took second, third went to #16 Nancy Hardwick, fourth place went to #33 Gary Berrier and fifth #1 Richard Blevins.
Number 3b Brad Seagle had last week’s winner, #1 Linton Perry, all over him this week. Seagle hung on and took the win. Number 1 Linton Perry took a close second and third went to #07 John Almon. A fight side-by-side for fourth place left #20 Angie Long behind a lap car and #32 Travis Sands came out the victor for the fourth place spot. Long rounded out the top five.
Number 05 Tony Dockery came into the Street Stock feature determined to take the win. Dockery did get the jump, and took the lead. Number 11 Tim Glass was soon in Dockery’s mirror and after about four laps, Glass went low and moved to the front. After that it was all over. Glass took the win, second went to Dockery, third was Scott Robinson, and fourth went to #99 Jamey Linkens.
In the Legends feature, #2 Fred Hardwick had just made his way to the lead, from where he started, and thought he had it made, but two laps later, the hood flew up and covered his windshield. Hardwick made his way to the pit and had the hood removed. At the finish #17 Shane Roberts was first across the line, then #64 Greg Turner, third was #99 Jeff Jordan, fourth went to #19 Janice Humble and #7 Ron Humble took fifth. Number 83 Brett Baer went from green to checkered in first place this week in the Classic feature. Baer did feel the pressure, because #18 Gary Kelley was right behind him the whole race. #3 Marvin Carter took third, fourth was #28 Fred McArthur and fifth #6 Rocky Estes Jr.
If you watched the Modified Mini feature, it was all blue and yellow at the end. During the race ,fans could see a little bit of red and yellow from #44 John Byers and some green from #12 Phil Derosia, but they could not stop the #19 of Bobby Northern, who took the win. #9 Jason Henry finished second, third was #44 John Byers, fourth went to #12 Phil Derosia, and fifth went to #T7 Danny Tullock.
There were a few cautions in the Four-Cylinder Late Models. A busted oil line sent #47 Rusty Knox up on the front straight away wall for about 100 feet and cars scattered all over, but no one was hurt. Number 29 Randy Ogle took control of this race from the very beginning and no one could get around him. Ogle takes the win and #98 Steve Ritchey took second, third was #24 Todd Pierce, fourth place was #46 Bobby Morgan and fifth went to #3 Byron Ward. Team 83’s Larry Gibson ruled the Wedge Late Models. #24 Larry Sullivan and #107 Scott Dyke tried to pass Gibson on several occasions but got just a little to close and bumped him, sending both to the back. He made his way back up, but just ran out of time. Sullivan ended up going to the pit because his car was overheating. Numer 8 Adam Beeler now had second and made a few attempts to pass Gibson, but like Dyke, just ran out of time. Gibson took the win, #8 Beeler finished second, #107 Dyke made his way to third, fourth went to #04 Sammy Morgan and fifth was #66 Frank Emel. I hope every one had as much fun this week as I did, you could not have asked for a better night of racing. The kids loved the bike races. For more info on the track,
