When I agreed to take the position of managing editor, I prepared myself for the twenty-minute morning drive. As I have been making this trip morning and evening I have a lot of time to think about all kinds of things.
The other morning on my way to work, via Chapman Highway, I realized just how un-alone I am. It occurred to me, while stopped at the traffic on Chapman and 411, that many folks drive through Seymour everyday.
Seymour is the epicenter for Sevier County and it makes sense to me that we see constant growth in this area. If I wanted to get to Maryville from Sevierville, I would pass through Seymour. If I want to get to Knoxville, and avoid heavy construction, I would go through Seymour.
From the Seymour Herald’s offices, located on Highway 411 in the Seymour Business Park, I see a constant flow of traffic. I also see a constant flow of traffic coming from Knoxville to our area.
I even heard Mix 105.5 talk about Seymour being a central locale for many families because it connects so many other towns. It is close to everything. Maryville, Knoxville, Sevierville, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge road’s all lead to Seymour.
How lucky we are to be a part of it.
Families, who make Seymour their home, have the feel of a small town without the disturbance of a big city. We have a nice community where children can still play outside and feel safe. We have great schools with great teachers that everyone knows and most importantly, we have a sense of community.
I think what impresses me the most about Seymour, is the fact that you only need to meet someone one time and they will remember you. Even though I don’t live here yet, I still feel as though Seymour is my home.
The future looks bright for Seymour and its’ residents. There is plenty of room for growth and development, while not being bombarded with tourist attractions that can make life hectic (Have you been on Hwy 66 lately). We should encourage and embrace the growth of the Seymour community because we have the room to grow and because it can only benefit our town’s economy.
Seymour is an epicenter for anyone that needs a home. It is inviting and convenient for any family that commutes to Knoxville, Maryville or Sevierville. As someone who lives in Pigeon Forge I can honestly say that I am jealous of the people who live here because there is a sense of pride and a feeling of home. I am also shocked at the flurry of activity going on within our community. The fact that our paper is always able to present local news (as in Seymour) is a testament to the fact that there is a flurry of activity in this area, that is an exciting thought and one the residents of Seymour should be proud of! I know that I am proud to be a part of all that Seymour has to offer and I know it is only going to get better.
I never despair on the twenty-minute drive in the morning because I know where I am headed-Seymour!
