All nine divisions were running last Saturday night at 411 Raceway, as the cars packed the pits and the fans packed the stands.
There was one new winner and also a first for 411 Raceway. A husband and wife started on the pole and then both took home the win, on the same night. Nancy Hardwick won in the Pro-Challenge and Fred Hardwick won in the Legends.
The Baby Grands ended up being a 25-lap dash to the finish line, they were all bunched up together, the first place spot saw three different cars in it, #4 Marshall Pugh, #35 Clifford Pugh, and #96 Jackie Cox. But in the end it was #96 Jackie Cox who took the checkered with #35 Clifford Pugh on his tail, #8 Dale Wilson finished third. #4 Marshall Pugh and #6 Tony Cox rounded out the field.
The Pro-Challenge had several lead changes also, but what turned out to be the one that changed the whole race was with five laps to go. Marty Arender was in first and heading toward turn one and had mechanical problems and dropped back two spots but recovered to stay in third. Within two laps Arender made his way back to second but didn’t have enough time to catch N. Hardwick. Hardwick persevered to take her second win of the season. Arender was second, #18 Mark Dyer third, #33 Gary Berrier fourth and #4 Tom Stinnett fifth.
In the Chargers race, #3B Brad Seagle pulled out to an early lead. The #43 driven by Stacy Castle made several attempts to get around Seagle, but came up empty handed. Seagle took his fifth win of the season. Second went to Castle, third was #71 Linton Perry, fourth #12 Justin Guy, and fifth #20 Angie Long. In the Legends race, #17 Shane Roberts and #2 Fred Hardwick fought it out for first place again this week. While they were up front near the middle of the pack the #37 Shane McDavid car blew a motor and put oil all over the track, which sent Roberts, #64 Greg Turner and #33 Brian Bounds sliding and then slamming into the turn one wall. All three were fine. Hardwick kept his spot in first and took his fifth win of the year. Second place went to Roberts, third #7 Ron Humble, fourth #57 Bruce Wacther, and John Gilley fifth.
#6 Rocky Estes Jr. jumped out to the early lead this week in the Classic Division. But had the #18 car in the back of his mind the whole time. As Estes kept the lead, #18 slowly moved toward the front. Estes also had the #28 of Fred McArthur all over him. After a late caution, which tightened the pack back up, Estes nailed it on the restart and put some distance between him and the rest of the pack. Estes held off Fred McArthur and Gary Kelley to take his first win of the season. Second place went to McArthur, third was Kelley, fourth went to #33 Brian Ball, fifth place #83 Larry Gibson.
#44 John Byers held the lead for most of the Modified Mini feature, but late in the race it was #9 Jason Henry who caught Byers and then passed him to take his fifth win of the season. Byers finished a close second, #17 Steve Owens Jr. finished third, #19 Brett Baer fourth and #12 Phil Derosia took fifth.
There was a lot of bumping and grinding in this weeks 4-Cyl Late Model race. The top three cars were all over each other. After a few lead changes and a couple of spins, the car that came out on top was #3 Byron Ward. #98 Steve Ritchey was second, third went to #24 Todd Pierce, fourth #F4 Sammy Russell, and fifth was #19x D.J. Prater.
Then #83 Larry Gibson took control of the Wedge Car Feature from the start, but with the #24 of Larry Sullivan right behind him all the way, fans had to wonder how long that control would last. As the rest of the drivers were fighting for position, Sullivan was all over Gibson– trying to get under, trying to go over, or what ever Sullivan could do to get around Gibson –he tried. But Sullivan just came up short and Gibson came up with the win after a protest Gibson was disqualified and Sullivan was deemed the new winner. #107 Scott Dyke was second, #8 Adam Beeler third, #22 Scott King fourth, and #04 Sammy Morgan was fifth.
