Seymour Lawn and Garden, located at 10210 Chapman Highway, started out as a family venture in 1985, but has grown into a thriving small business for owner Chad Williams.
Williams has seen the business grow from mowing yards with Snapper push mowers to a full-scale lawn and maintenance center. Seymour Lawn and Garden now provides complete lawn maintenance–from a weekly mowing to yearly landscaping contracts– using commercial mowers.
“My brother Steve started it in 1985,” said Williams. “After he graduated from college in the summer of 1991, I took it over. At first I was just doing the lawn maintenance but we moved here March 1st of 2001 and we’re trying to expand the business to offer more to the customer. We’ve got 60 yards that we keep up every week. We try to do as much landscaping as we can and also run this place, so it takes a lot of time.”
The business is locally owned and operated. Williams graduated from Seymour High School in 1993 and Jeremy McNutt, who now oversees the lawn maintenance, graduated from Seymour in 1998.
Williams has meanwhile turned his attention to running operations at the location to get the retail end of the business going.
“We sell all the Annuals and Perennials along with trees and shrubs,” Williams added. “We’d like to start pushing more big trees like big Bradford Pears, Red Maples and River Birch.”
Seymour Lawn and Garden also sell mulch, storage sheds, mountain stones, and river stones and pea gravel. They plan on selling Christmas trees and fall decorations during the seasons.
