Congressman John J. Duncan Jr. will be the keynote speaker at Seymour Community Christian School’s upcoming graduation. Congressman Duncan is the representative for the 2nd district and has been serving since his election in 1988. Representative Duncan was born in Lebanon, Tennessee. He grew up in and attended public schools in Knoxville.
In the U.S. House of Representatives, he serves as the Chairman of the Water Resources Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He also serves on the Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over our national parks and natural resources. In 2001, Congressman Duncan was appointed to the House Committee on Government Reform.
Representative Duncan’s efforts in Congress to cut government waste, reduce taxes, and limit federal red tape have been recognized by various organizations and national news media such as ABC News, CBS News, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and U.S. News and World Report.
He has been named among the top five most fiscally conservative Members of both the House and the Senate by the National Taxpayers Union. Representative Duncan has also been recognized as one of only six members of Congress, tied for second, to receive the “Super Hero” award from the 500,000 member Citizens Against Government Waste. Moreover, Congressman Duncan has one of the best attendance records in the entire Congress.
This will be the 23rd commencement for SCCS, this year the graduating class consists of 8 seniors. Commencement ceremonies will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 24. Graduation will be held in the church auditorium of Seymour Community Church. The public is invited to attend. The school is located 994 S. Old Sevierville Pike.
