Seymour Hardware is more than just a hardware store and Ron French is more than just the owner. If one were to have walked in the local establishment at 4:15 this past Saturday, they would have heard a sermon and the exchanging of wedding vows.
The Honorable Ron French, Blount County Commissioner, Seymour Hardware Owner and person officiating the wedding ceremony in the Seymour Hardware married John Henry Leight and Katherine Marie Summers.
“It seemed like an appropriate place to be married because this is where we met,” stated Summers.
Two years ago Summers stopped in at the hardware store to order a custom cut glass. Leight willingly provided Summers the exact sized glass she ordered.

Leight, suggested that he might measure it himself this time. Summers promised that it was correct this third and final time. And along with this final service by Leight, Summers had invited Leight for dinner because of his continued assistance. Leight accepted. Five months later, he proposed and the rest is history.
It wasn’t hard to convince French to allow the wedding to take place at the hardware as Leight works there full time.
Anthony Stanbery and Christi Reagan were the official witnesses. Barry Shular and several others were on hand to congratulate the proud couple.
To our knowledge, this is the first time in the state and perhaps in the nation that a couple has performed their wedding vows in a hardware store.
