Bob’s Mountaineer Restaurant, a Seymour landmark for more than 20-years, was destroyed by fire on Monday, April 8th at approximately 9:15am.
There were two customers having breakfast in the building when the fire started but no one was injured in the blaze. Karen Reynolds, a waitress at the restaurant, quickly cleared the premises and called Emergency 911. Firefighters were on the scene within minutes, but the damage had already been done and the building was deemed a total loss.
“Bob Prichard bought the restaurant from Gerald Dixon in the early 1980’s,” said Roy Hodges, who was one of the many that had gathered to watch firefighters work to get the fire under control. Prichard had since included his son Robert and daughter Christina as co-proprietors of the business. Bob and his wife Linda Pritchard were in Arizona on vacation when the fire occurred and was expected to return on Tuesday.
Robert Prichard said that the fire was believed to have begun when “a char broiler in the kitchen caught fire and flames shot up through the ceiling.”
Prichard was already thinking of a timetable to start rebuilding the restaurant that his family has owned and operated for the past 21 years.”My plan is to have it back up in 30 days,” Prichard said Monday morning as firefighters continued to extinguish the last of the flames.
Bob’s Mountaineer Rest-aurant is located at 10321 Chapman Highway and has long been a gathering place for Seymour citizens. The Lions Club, several local community clubs and The Shiloh Riders Club are just a few groups who depended on the friendly atmosphere of the restaurant to conduct their group meetings and enjoy the fried fish.
