Easter is a time for bunnies, bonnets and brunch! Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic sponsored an afternoon of fun while raising money for the medicinal needs of the clinic.
Over a hundred bonnet-wearing ladies and one hat-clad gentleman arrived at the Music Road Convention Center for a delicious Easter Brunch provided by The Wild Plum Tearoom. Of the many taste-tempting goodies on the brunch buffet, the cheesy grits soufflé and the raspberry white chocolate bread pudding were among my favorites.
Jeanne King, Sevier County Vocational Center Consumer Science Teacher, presented an interesting program on the history and transition of hats, from the first hat makers in Milan, Italy in the early 1600’s to the resurgence of hats in the 1980’s credited to Princess Diana.
King has been collecting vintage hats for about ten years and she displayed a portion of her vintage collection from the 1940’s and 1950’s.
“Hats express individuality and creativity. Just look around the room and you can see the creative of the hats being worn today,” King explained.
Dr. Johnnie Human is the Family Counselor for the clinic and she discussed the role of family relations and behavioral health for clients. Human entitled her remarks, “We Want You; We Need You; We Have to Have You.” She emphasized the necessity for community involvement to meet the needs of the clinic.
Participants in the Easter Bonnet Parade were awarded prizes. Winners included Cutest Kid: Bailey Houston; Funniest: Amos Marshall; Most Sophisticated: Frances Tidwell; Best Floral: Mary Louse Hailey; Wildest: Jean Chase; Best Mother/Daughter: Sara and Katie Valentine; Most Unusual: Lori Mullinex; Best Red Hat: Joan Saas and Cheryl Burdram Best of Show: Shirley Price.
Nancy and Mike Hodges of First Baptist Church in Gatlinburg provided a medley of Easter music. Local florists donating floral table decorations include All Occasion Florist, Atrium Flowers, Back Home Florist, BJ’s Florist, Cupid’s Petals, Flowers of Gatlinburg, Food City Florist, From the Heart Flowers, Personalized Planting and River Oaks Florist.
“This has been a fabulous day and exciting day for Mountain Hope,” stated Elaine Miller, Fund Raising Development Director. Attendance has increased over last year and it was a ‘hat-raising’ good time.
